Industrial Battery Energy Storage for Uzhhorod and Zakarpattia Oblast

You run a plant in Uzhhorod or a logistics hub near the border. Power outages cost you hours, and demand charges inflate your bills. We engineer BESS systems that pay back — after we measure your actual load, not from a brochure.

Key parameters

Location
Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia Oblast, UA-21
Grid operator
Zakarpattiaoblenergo
Typical system size
1 MW / 2 MWh (2-hour discharge)
Payback range
4-7 years, based on tariff

Step 1: What to Measure On-Site

Before proposing a single kilowatt, we record your load profile for at least two weeks. In Uzhhorod, automotive component plants often run three shifts, while woodworking shops peak in the morning and evening. That difference changes battery sizing completely.

We log voltage at your 0.4 kV or 10 kV bus, harmonics, and power factor. At 0.4 kV, a 1 MW BESS is usually not feasible — you need a 10 kV connection. Without a load profile, any payback figure is rough.

Step 2: Documents to Pull Before Design

Get your last twelve months of electricity bills from Zakarpattiaoblenergo. They show your demand charge (UAH/kW) and energy price — the two numbers that justify storage. Also pull your connection contract and single-line diagram.

Check your transformer capacity. Many Uzhhorod factories have 630 kVA or 1000 kVA transformers. If you already pay for 800 kVA of demand but the transformer is 630 kVA, a BESS can shave peaks without upgrading the transformer.

Step 3: Grid Constraints to Verify with Zakarpattiaoblenergo

Your BESS must meet local technical conditions (TU) issued by Zakarpattiaoblenergo. They regulate export limits, protection settings, and metering requirements. We handle that application — you don't talk to the DSO alone.

Ask them about reverse power flow. If you plan to charge at night and discharge during peak, that's fine. But if you want to sell to the grid, export limits may apply. In Uzhhorod, the 110/35/10 kV network is relatively strong, but the 0.4 kV network is not designed for bi-directional flow.

Step 4: The Solution — Sizing, Technology, and Layout

We design for your specific tariff. For a typical 1 MW / 2 MWh system, you get 2 hours of backup or peak shaving. For a logistics hub with cold storage, we might recommend 1.5 MW / 3 MWh to cover longer outages. Payback ranges from 4 to 7 years, depending on tariff and hours.

Our standard outdoor cabinet uses LiFePO4 cells (CATL or other Tier-1), liquid cooling, BMS, and EMS/SCADA. Enclosure is IP55/C4, rated for Uzhhorod's climate — down to -25°C in winter. We provide 20/40 ft container options for larger installations.

Step 5: Why BESS Ukraine Engineering Group

We are a full-cycle EPC contractor: audit, design, supply, installation, commissioning, and service. We have done feasibility studies for industrial clients in Zakarpattia Oblast, so we know the local grid quirks and documentation flow.

We do not do residential systems — those are handled by SolarProm.com.ua. Our scope is 50 kW to 5 MW industrial storage. Call +380 44 339-50-20 or email engineering@bess.com.ua. We start with a site visit and a metering campaign — no obligation.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get a connection approved by Zakarpattiaoblenergo?
Typically 2-3 months after submitting the TU application. We prepare all documents, including the single-line diagram and protection coordination study. The DSO reviews and issues technical conditions, then we design to meet them.
Can I use BESS for backup power during blackouts?
Yes, but sizing depends on your critical load. For a 100 kW load, a 1 MWh battery gives about 10 hours. We design for both peak shaving and islanding, but ensure your UPS handles the transition — BESS response is under 100 ms.
What is the payback period for a 1 MW / 2 MWh system in Uzhhorod?
Based on current tariffs, around 5 years if you shift at least 2,000 kWh per day. Exact figure depends on your load profile and demand charge. We calculate it after a two-week measurement.
Do you provide maintenance after installation?
Yes. We offer service contracts with remote monitoring via EMS/SCADA, annual inspections, and cell replacement if needed. Typical battery life is 10-15 years, but we maintain it to guarantee performance.
Can you install BESS for a woodworking factory with a 0.4 kV connection?
If your load is under 200 kW, a small BESS (50-100 kW) can be connected at 0.4 kV, but you need to check transformer capacity. For larger systems, we recommend a 10 kV connection. We assess that during the audit.

Figures shown are indicative. Exact sizing follows a site survey and load-profile analysis.
