Integrating Growatt Components in Industrial Battery Energy Storage Systems

We work with Growatt inverters and storage in industrial BESS projects across Ukraine. This page is a technical breakdown of where Growatt fits in the topology, how to size it, and what fails if you do it wrong.

Input Data and System Context

Growatt's WIT and MOD series are mass-market commercial inverters and storage units. In a BESS, they sit at the PCS (power conversion system) layer, converting DC from the battery bank to AC for the grid or load. We typically integrate them with LiFePO4 cells (CATL or other Tier-1) and our own BMS/EMS.

Before sizing, you need the load profile, peak demand, and desired autonomy. For industrial sites in Ukraine, this often means 2-4 hours of backup or peak shaving. Without a load profile, any capacity figure is rough.

Power and Capacity Sizing

Size the inverter power (kW) to your peak load or charging demand. Growatt WIT/MOD units support parallel assembly, so multiple inverters can be stacked. For capacity (kWh), multiply average load by required hours plus a safety margin for degradation and efficiency losses (typically 10-15%).

At 0.4 kV, parallel units can handle up to a few hundred kW. For multi-MW systems, you may need medium-voltage transformers. A 1 MW BESS with 2 MWh capacity is a common starting point for industrial peak shaving.

Connection Topology and Integration

Growatt inverters connect to the AC bus (0.4 kV) via their AC terminals. DC side connects to the battery bank through a DC breaker and fuse. The BMS communicates with the inverter via CAN or Modbus for state-of-charge limits and protection.

Parallel assembly: ensure all inverters are synchronized (same firmware version) and that AC wiring is symmetrical. We use a common AC busbar and per-unit breakers. Grounding and cable sizing must follow local codes.

What Goes Wrong with Bad Sizing

Undersized inverter: trips on overload during peak shaving, causing downtime. Oversized: poor efficiency at partial load, higher upfront cost, and potential grid code issues with reactive power.

Undersized battery: fails to meet autonomy, accelerates cycling and shortens life. Oversized battery: unnecessary capex and underutilization. Also, mismatched voltage ratings between Growatt inverter and battery bank can cause communication errors or damage.

Incoming Inspection, Warranty, and Service in Ukraine

On delivery, check for physical damage, verify model numbers and serials against the packing list, and test each unit for insulation resistance and firmware version. Confirm that the BMS communication protocol matches the inverter settings.

Growatt offers warranty (typically 5 years on inverters), but service in Ukraine depends on local partners. We have experience building on Growatt equipment and can advise on spare parts availability. For service, contact us; we can handle commissioning and maintenance. Do not rely on unofficial channels for warranty claims.

Frequently asked questions

Can Growatt inverters be used with any battery brand?
Growatt inverters are compatible with most LiFePO4 batteries if the voltage range matches and BMS communication is supported. In our projects, we integrate them with CATL cells and our own BMS, using Modbus RTU or CAN. Always verify voltage and comms before purchase.
How many Growatt inverters can be paralleled for a 1 MW system?
The exact number depends on the model's rated power. WIT/MOD series typically range from 50-100 kW per unit, so a 1 MW system would need 10-20 units. Parallel kits are available, but proper AC and DC distribution design is essential.
What is the typical payback period for a Growatt-based BESS in Ukraine?
For peak shaving with a 2-4 hour battery, payback is often 4-6 years, depending on tariff differentials and utilization. Without a load profile, that figure is rough. We can prepare a feasibility study for your specific site.
Do you provide warranty service for Growatt equipment in Ukraine?
We are not an official service center, but we can facilitate warranty claims through the supply chain and provide maintenance. Many Growatt components have 5-year warranties. Check your purchase contract for coverage in Ukraine.
What should I check when receiving Growatt equipment?
Inspect for transit damage, verify serial numbers, and test each inverter's firmware. Ensure the battery voltage is within the inverter's MPPT or DC input range. Also, confirm that the BMS communication cables and connectors are included and undamaged.
