Integrating Deye Hybrid Inverters into Industrial Battery Energy Storage Systems

Deye three-phase hybrid inverters are a cost-effective option for C&I storage in the 50–200 kW range. We integrate them into full BESS solutions, and this page explains where they fit, what to inspect on delivery, and what service to expect in Ukraine.

Where Deye Inverters Sit in the BESS Topology

In a typical industrial storage system, the DC bus from LiFePO4 battery racks connects to a DC/DC converter or directly to the inverter's battery terminals. Deye hybrid inverters combine the grid-tied inverter, battery charger, and transfer switch in one unit. In our designs, Deye units act as the power conversion stage for systems up to 200 kW (parallel up to 16 units, so theoretically up to 800 kW, but we rarely exceed 200 kW at 0.4 kV).

Above that, we move to central inverters or containerized solutions. The Deye's internal BMS communication (CAN/RS485) talks to our master BMS, and we handle EMS/SCADA integration via Modbus. For multi-unit paralleling, we use Deye's parallel kit and configure master-slave; we have done up to 6 units in one project, and the sync is stable.

Diesel Genset, UPS, or Storage? When Each Is Justified

If you need backup for a critical process with transfer time under 10 ms, a UPS is the only option. But for most industrial loads, a 1–2 second interruption is acceptable, and a hybrid inverter with battery can switch in less than 20 ms, which is fine for motors and drives.

Diesel gensets are justified when you have a load profile with high peak but low energy: e.g., a 500 kW peak for 2 hours a day. Genset CAPEX is low, but fuel and maintenance are high. Storage is better when the peak occurs daily, and you have a TOU tariff with a spread of more than 3 UAH/kWh. Raising contracted capacity is a one-time fee and monthly demand charge; if the peak lasts more than 2 hours, storage may not be economical—you'd need too many batteries.

In our feasibility studies, we calculate payback for each option. For a typical factory with 150 kW peak, 2 hours, and a demand charge of 300 UAH/kW/month, storage (Deye + 300 kWh LiFePO4) pays back in 3.5–4.5 years. Genset payback is often negative if you include maintenance. UPS is only for specific loads.

Incoming Inspection and Acceptance Criteria

Before you accept a Deye inverter, check the following. First, verify the model number and firmware version—Deye releases updates frequently, and we have seen units with old firmware that had parallel issues. Second, inspect the DC connectors: they are a common failure point. Use a torque wrench to verify the connections, and measure the open-circuit voltage of each MPPT input.

Third, test the communication ports: RS485, CAN, and the parallel port. We always do a bench test with a battery simulator before installing. Finally, check the insulation resistance of the AC side—Deye has had cases of moisture ingress if the gland is not sealed. If you are not experienced, hire an integrator; a wrong inspection can void warranty.

Warranty, Service, and Spare Parts in Ukraine

Deye offers a standard 5-year warranty, extendable to 10 years if you register the product online. In Ukraine, warranty service is provided through their service network, but we have seen delays of 2–3 weeks for RMA. That is why we maintain our own stock of spare parts: main boards, fans, and power modules.

We also have trained technicians who can perform repairs on-site, which is faster than sending the unit to a service center. For critical systems, we recommend keeping a spare inverter. Deye parts are generally available within 1–2 weeks from European warehouses. We have experience with warranty claims; the process is straightforward if you keep the original invoice and serial number.

Frequently asked questions

Can Deye inverters work with any LiFePO4 battery?
Deye inverters have a battery voltage range (typically 160–800 V) and communicate via CAN or RS485. For optimal performance, we recommend using batteries with a compatible BMS. We integrate CATL cells with a third-party BMS that we configure to communicate with Deye. So yes, but it requires proper setup.
What is the maximum number of Deye inverters I can parallel?
Deye officially supports up to 16 units in parallel for three-phase models. In practice, we have installed up to 6 units in one site. Above that, you may face synchronization issues, and you need to ensure the grid connection point can handle the total current. For larger systems, we use central inverters.
How long does it take to install a Deye-based BESS?
For a typical 100 kW system, installation takes 2–3 days, plus 1 day for commissioning. The overall project timeline from audit to handover is usually 4–6 weeks, depending on the battery lead time. We deliver turnkey, so you do not need to coordinate multiple contractors.
What is the warranty on Deye inverters in Ukraine?
