Kharkiv's industrial profile is machine building, turbine plants, electronics, and food processing. That means lots of induction motors—pumps, compressors, conveyor drives—with high inrush currents. A diesel genset is justified only for long outages (hours) and if you can tolerate a break of 10–30 seconds during transfer. It cannot hold the frequency during motor starts unless it is oversized by 3–5 times, which is costly. If your process tolerates downtime and you need 8+ hours of backup, a genset plus a small BESS for bridging is a solid pairing.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is for critical electronics—server rooms, controls, measurement systems. It has no energy capacity for motor loads. A 100 kVA UPS with 5 minutes of runtime costs more per kWh than a BESS and won't help with peak shaving.

Raising contracted capacity with Kharkivoblenergo is a paper fix. It increases your fixed monthly fee permanently, and it does nothing for voltage sags.
